Morris & Dickson celebrates World Pharmacists Day
The nation’s largest independent full-line pharmaceutical distributor, Morris & Dickson, wishes to thank all the pharmacists it serves today as it celebrates World Pharmacists Day.
World Pharmacists Day was established in 2009 at the International Pharmaceutical Federation’s (FIP) council meeting in Turkey. The date of September 25 was chosen to commemorate the formation of the FIP on September 25, 1912. “Pharmacy united in action for a healthier world” is the theme for the 2022 World Pharmacists Day.
Headquartered in the Netherlands, the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) is the global body representing over 4 million pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, and pharmaceutical educators. FIP is a non-governmental organization that has been in official relations with the World Health Organization since 1948.
“The core duty of every pharmacist is to apply the full measure of their knowledge and abilities to support health and well-being,” said FIP President Dominique Jordan “I invite all colleagues to take part in the campaign this year and show the world how our profession is united for health, regardless of and overcoming conflict, different politics and cultures, and economic disparity.”
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that there were 312,550 pharmacists in the U.S., according to 2021 records. Roughly 57% work in retail settings, 26% work in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities, and the remaining 17% work in varied settings, including academia, Internet, or mail-order pharmacies, pharmaceutical wholesalers, or the U.S. Federal Government.
“Morris & Dickson proudly celebrates World Pharmacists Day,” said Jody Hatcher, Chief Executive Officer at Morris & Dickson. “As a company who puts pharmacies and patients first, we’d like to thank all those pharmacists who put the public health first.”
Morris & Dickson began as a small-town family pharmacy in Shreveport, Louisiana, back in 1841. Those pharmacy and family roots continue to guide Louisiana’s second-oldest operating business and a major national player in the pharmaceutical industry.
With over 30,000 SKUs, Morris & Dickson’s singular focus is the reliable, next-day delivery of drugs and related products to health systems, independent pharmacies, specialty pharmacies, and alternative care facilities across 19 states (and counting).
